BuZay

So things have been extremely busy as of late which explains the lack of posts. Now I'm working full time back at my previous company. It's nice to be back and getting a regular paycheck. In addition I have been dancing a lot as well. It's just great to do something that I really enjoy doing. So my life has been consumed as of late due to work and dancing. I do apologize to my friends whom got accustom to seeing me on a regular basis especially to the Thursday Marix crew. I will skip a class just for you one week. :P

Stefano

Bye Stefano! We Miss You. Hope you're having in Europe. We'll see you soon - hopefully this summer.

Audition

Recently I was asked to dance with a group friends from the various dance classes I go to. Turns out we were going to audition for a new dance competition show. We learned the combo the morning of the audition and went straight into it.

We didn't do our best but it seemed that they liked us a lot. We'll see what happens. We named ourselves the Oriyentas because the group is made up of Asians and Jews. haha.

To get an idea of what we did - go to 2:35 of the J Lo Music Video Get Right. We did the break down section. Enjoy!

K-Pop

For some odd reason recently I have been on a Korean Pop or K-Pop binge specifically their girl and guy groups. Although I don't know what they're saying the songs are pretty catchy. If you have heard of Wondergirls and their song Nobody you know what I am talking about. Here are several other groups that I've been listening too. If you happen to listen to K-Pop let me know what others I should be listening to.

Sing

There has been a barrage of people on youtube singing. A lot of them good but a lot of them BAD!!! I know they are doing this for fun but if people are watching it just as I am - I'm ridiculing them, laughing, and sharing it with others. I'm not sure if these people think that they are talented and can sing but they are continually posting videos. Because of this I subscribe to see what they come up with next. They actually become internet celebrities and sometimes get thousands of hits per video. If you can bare them - below are some examples. One is a link as they did not allow embedding videos. Good luck and enjoy!

Positives

In my previous post I talk about having my car which was not the highlight of the day. I did however have positives happen.

In the morning at the gym as I was leaving an older man comes up to me and said that I inspired to do push ups as he saw me doing them.

I do push ups after I've done some stomach exercises. It's a great end to my workout.

Later in the evening I went to my first hip hop class at the Edge Performing Arts Center. After class a woman who was taking the class came up to me and said that she was watching me and said how good I was. How sweet!

For those who know me I LOVE to dance and having someone watch me enjoy what I love to do was probably the best compliment I could hear.

Positives. Always think of the positive things of the day and it makes your day worthwhile. With these two highlights of what happened in my day it was a nice day. My car dying was just a minor blip.

Headlights

I know I have a bad habit of leaving my headlights on. I have done this way too many times. Again, it happened tonight after my last hip hop class in West Hollywood.

I did massive texts to those that I knew that lived in the area. Thank goodness for James and Chord who jumped my car.

Lesson - double check my car to make sure lights are off so I'm not in that situation again.

Roscoe

Here are some pictures of Roscoe. I some times walk him or keep him company. He's a Pit Bull. Totally changed my mind about this breed. Roscoe is the sweetest dog however he LOVES to play and I sometimes...well always come home with some new scratch on my body.

Fitness

We begin a new year and many make the resolution of getting fit or losing weight. As this isn't a resolution of mine as I do go to the gym regularly I'm going to make it a goal to keep up my fitness or improve upon it.

In addition to my weight training I have realized I need to do more of a cardio regimen. I have been slacking but I have picked up. I've started to dance more not just at the 24 hour classes but also at the edge performing arts center in Hollywood. (Thanks to Dean for the gift certificate on my birthday. I'm hooked now!) On an average week I dance 5 times week sometimes doing back to back classes where I'm dancing three to four hours.

I'm also going back to my cardio routine. Depending if I do weights that day I will do anywhere from thirty to forty-five minutes of it. The latter consists of:
  • 10 minutes on a stationary bike
  • 15 minutes on the ellipticial
  • 5 minutes on the rowing maching
  • 5 minutes on the stair machine
  • 10 minutes running on the treadmill
The times will vary if I am doing a shorter workout.

I hope to also incorporate some other activities like tennis, hiking, and back into running. I didn't run any marathons this year. I did a couple short races but who knows what this year holds.

Sounds like a lot but it's the sacrifice I have to make to keep fit.

Good Riddance 2009. Welcome 2010!
Happy New Year.

Remembering Gloria

Today was Gloria Gadioma's funeral. For those of you who don't know Gloria she was one of my volunteers at the American Stroke Association. This year she succumbed to cancer. She will be extremely missed.

My memories of her have been always positive as she was. Although I knew she was fighting cancer she showed up on Saturdays giving her time to the organization. Always there with a big smile and encouraging others. She was an inspiration to many. Sometimes she would set a goal of what she was going to do that day and most of the time she would exceed it.

Another fond memory of Gloria was when I saw her she would complement me. Gloria would always ask if I had been losing weight. She would go on to say that I looked good. Who doesn't love to be complemented on the way you look, right?

Gloria Gadioma - I will miss you. You've have touched me and many others while you were with us. Your memory will live on. Rest in Peace Gloria!

Gym

I must be in a bad mood because I was really irked today by a couple things at the gym. Well irked and grossed out.

One there was dude wearing really small tight shorts. Really? Do you want the whole gym to see your package. Gross!

Two I'm working out in front of the mirror then some dude goes right in front of me and starts doing his stretches. Hello?!? You saw me here. Rude!

Three his girlfriend, wife or whatever the hell she is comes. You guys start making out in front of me. Tongue and everything! Yuck! This is a gym. Go home and do your thang not here.

Blah!

Weekend

Here are a couple things I posted on my Facebook in case you missed it:

Got to love Filipino Moms. My mom says in a deep Filipino accent - I like that song. The one - Bad Romance. What's her name - Lady Caca.

Just tore my place apart looking for my keys. It was in my pocket. Dumbass.

Hannukah?

Yesterday I spent Christmas Eve with family on my dad's side. It was fun and always an abundance of food.

Anyhow we get to the gift exchanging part and my father hands me a card. I always appreciate cards especially ones with cash inside. As I open the card I'm a little bewildered. Check this out:

My parents got me a Hannukah Card. I love how the monkey is holding a menorah. Obviously not paying attention when buying cards. It was a good laugh.

Merry Christmas everyone or according to my parents - Happy Hannukah!

Auntie

A message left to me by my friend & old roommate Stacey on facebook:

Malia and I were looking at pictures on sunday and there was a picture of you holding her at the La Brea Tar Pits. I asked her - Who's that? She said, "Auntie!" I was dying!

In Memory of Gloria Gadioma

The E-mail I received from her husband, Jim:

My wife Gloria Gadioma completed her final marathon, crossing the finish line of Life at around 8:30 a.m. PST this morning, December 21. She finished at 55 years, 7 months and 19 days. We thank all those who cheered her on, especially during the last few weeks through their thoughts, prayers, visits, text messages, phone calls and emails. We are sure she is glad to have known you all as she can now cheer us on from her own Victory Banquet with the Heavenly Hosts.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She was one of the most sweet, kind, caring, dedicated individuals with whom I had the pleasure to work with while I was with the American Heart Association and Train to End Stroke. Your spirit lives on. Rest in Peace Gloria.

Charity?

On the Thursday before Thanksgiving I had gone to a hip hop class in West Hollywood. Afterwards Henry had invited me over for dinner and I agreed to go. On the way I had stopped at 7-11 to grab a drink. As I left my car a man approaches me. He says I'm not asking for money. I was just wondering if you could buy food for myself and my wife. In the spirit of Thanksgiving I would be grateful.

I agreed. So he was grabbing food. More than I thought but I figured even though I'm unemployed I am able to survive and I would help someone who is need. As I am ready to pay I hear a cell phone ring in his pocket.

Of course in my head - How can you afford a cell phone and not food?

I didn't say anything and went ahead and paid for everything. As I was walking out I was second thinking my actions. Did I actually help someone or was I duped?

Macaroni & Beef

This morning as I usually do I went to the gym. It's been pretty warm lately so I decided I needed to stock up on some fluids for the week in case I get thirsty - Diet Coke, Limeade, Water, etc. etc. Since I worked out I was hungry so I decided to go to the deli to get something to eat. I decided on the Macaroni & Beef.

An overweight older lady who was standing next to me hears what I ordered, turns to me, waves her finger in the air and says - "That's not healthy."

Ummmmm.....Irony!

Look Alike

I know I don't look like too many celebrities but I have gotten a couple. I have been told I look like Jai Rodriguez from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. I've also been told I look like Wilmer Valderamma from That 70s show. Recently I was told I looked like Diego from Go Diego Go which is a children's cartoon.

Well today I got one that was a little shocker. Someone told me I look like Alec Mapa. He's a Filipino Comedian/Actor who was in Ugly Betty and Desparate Housewives. I don't know if I do look like him? Is it just because we're both Filipino. What do you think? A picture is below.

Radio

With technology these days there are certain devices which people don't really use anymore. One is my stereo system. By owning a couple ipods and speakers for the ipod I have rarely used my stereo system.

Well today I was compelled to hit play and see what cd was in there. It was actually a mix cd. The first song was Beenie Man - Girls Dem Sugar. Other songs were old but still songs that I like - Afterparty and another.

Here's a video of Girls Dem Suga It's below. Enjoy!

Parking

Where I live a permit is needed to park and of course I have one. I forgot that it expired yesterday and totally forgot to put the new one. If anything I should be able to put it on this morning right?

Well to my surprise I get a $53 ticket on my car for having an expired permit but what gets me is that the ticket was written at 12:03 a.m. So someone was waiting until midnight to begin writing tickets. I wasn't the only one who was ticketed but still.

That is the one thing I hate about LA is that you have to pay for parking and permits are needed everywhere. ARGH!

Happy Friday to to you too Department of Parking, Transportation or whoever the hell deals with parking.

Uncle Baby

This past weekend we celebrated my friend's Cecile's Birthday. I was able to make it to one of her festivties by joining her for dinner and having fried chicken at Knott's Berry Farm.

It was good to see friends and hang out with fun people including Nick, Isa and their little one Zavyer. He's totally adorable.

Anyhow she brought him over to say hi and she was like look it's Uncle Babe. Nick chimes in and says Uncle Lusty or Uncle Babe and eventually it led to Uncle Baby. I guess it's a combination of Lusty and Baby.

Now they're adamant at making sure that I'll be Uncle Baby.

For those who are Filipino who have a Tita Baby - I have a Ninang Baby - imagine a family party and someone yelling out Uncle Baby. I could see all the confused faces from the parentals.

All in all it's funny but not sure if I want to be called Uncle Baby. Sorry Isa and Nick.

iConnect

Tonight I went to a hip hop dance show put on by Culture Shock Los Angeles entitled iConnect at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex. I've actually performed in this venue when I danced with Kayamanan ng Lahi years ago.

The pre-show consisted of different groups. First they had students from classes that Culture Shock teaches at local schools. Then they had Kaba Modern Legacy, Fanny Pak, and Futureshock. All those teams killed it.

I really enjoyed the show and can't wait to see what they have in store for September. The show's premise was mainly how communication affects our lives. The dancing was great but the best part I thought was the spoken word portion that immediately followed intermission.

Overall, great show. Congratulations to Culture Shock Los Angeles. The picture above is with my cousin Jeanne, her friend Nicholas and several of the members of Fanny Pak.

Fall Running

After completing the marathon in Las Vegas I figured to continue running so I can do the Pasadena Half Marathon. Well things happened - injury, illness and wasn't able to. I also forgoed doing the San Diego Rock n Roll Full Marathon.

With yesterday's festivities and how much I ate it's probably time for me to start running again. I've already started getting back into my weights routine - it's now time to get back into running.

Knowing me I can't just run and have no goal of not doing a race thus I have decided these are the races I will be aiming to do:

Disneyland Half Marathon - Sunday, September 6th
Long Beach Half Marathon - Sunday, October 11th
Rock n Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon - Sunday, December 6th

As you can see I have decided not to do any full marathons this year. Maybe in 2010. I might be adding smaller races to this as well as maybe one more half marathon. This can change based on my training. Come join me on a run.

Maybe

Here's my new song obsession that is on repeat. I've moved from Asian Pop to UK Pop. I'll make it back to American Pop eventually.

I actually really like the song. It kind of has that groove, chill . . . Jon B feel. Enjoy!

Mark & Lizzy

Congratulations to Mark & Lizzy on their wedding. Thank you for letting me witness your big day.

Lizzy - Welcome to the Carson Family. C-House! Holla!

Jeez

We had an event today and I had volunteered to help out. After the even my co-worker and I decided to have lunch at City National Bank Plaza in Downtown. One of our usual spots.

Anyhow, we're having lunch and I spilled some soda on my hand. I continued to have lunch but my hand was getting sticky so I excused myself to go to the bathroom. A lady was in front of me and I guess she needed to use the bathroom. She peered into the Men's Bathroom, exhaled and said Jeez!

I guess she didn't realized she was looking into the Men's Bathroom. As she stormed off she let out a couple of farts.

I started laughing and couldn't tell her that she looked into the Men's Bathroom. With all that farting she must've really needed to drop the deuce. hahahaha!!!

Cupcakes

This morning I was reading the LA Times online and noticed an article on cupcakes. It turns out that there is going to be a huge cupcake challenge this Sunday at the Renaissance Hotel on Hollywood & Highland in Hollywood. You can go to the event for $40. Hopefully that means you get to taste them as well.

As I was reading the article I noticed a link to a map with pictures of cupcakes all over. It turns out it is a google map with a bunch of locations that serve cupcakes. How fun!!!

Great Urban Race

So I worked out at the 24 hour in Downtown today. As I was walking I saw people who were dressed the same running all around with bib numbers. It didn't look like a normal race since the streets weren't closed but more of a scavenger hunt.

I was able to get a glimpse on their bib and it sad the Great Urban Race. I looked it up and they have these scavenger hunts around different cities and today was the Los Angeles race. The winner gets a cash prize and gets entry into the national championships in New Orleans.

It totally looks like fun and since I missed it this year I want to do it next year. Who wants to be my partner?

Kind of funny especially if you know me. How the hell did I do that? Oh well. Good luck on your pools if you did one and if not back to your normal lives. Have a good weekend y'all.

Song of the Moment

Here's what I'm grooving to -

Pumps and a Bump

By the way while I was working out today for some odd reason MC Hammer's Pumps and a Bump kept on playing in my head.

WEIRD!!!

Pumps And A Bump - M.C. Hammer

Routine

After having foot problems and being sick I am back to working out. It's been a long time and it's good to be back in the routine. I know it's going to be a while before I go back to where I was then again it'll be a while especially since I sprained my wrist. I think my wrist is healed though. I don't feel the pain when lifting. Let's hope it stays that way.

Oh Mother!

"My 17 year-old son has been very secretive with me lately...tonight when I was going through his room I found a magazine with naked men in it. He obviously has a girlfriend that hi is hiding from me that brought the magazine into my home, and I am afraid they are having intercourse and I am greatly concerned that he is going to get her pregnant. What should I do about this?" - Bethany - a woefully clueless mother recently seeking advice on the Yahoo! Answers message board

Beyonce's Single Ladies music video was inspired by Fosse. However I think her Get Me Bodied video may have been inspired by Fosse. Well at least the styling. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Guns

Yesterday my friend Howie decided for his birthday that he wanted to go to the gun range for his birthday. Different but I was down to go but wasn't sure if I wasn't go to shoot any guns. I was just going to watch.

I brought Andrew with me since he expressed interest. While on our way there I decided heck why not. At least do it at least once in your life.

I was pretty nervous waiting. It's like the feelings you get before you go on a roller coaster. Excited, Nervous, Scared. I wasn't sure what I was going to expect from shooting a gun.

When it came time to choosing a gun I chose a Baby Eagle...somethng or another. Forgot the rest of the name. My friend Bobby was like - how perfect. hahaha.

After they gave us our safety instructions we entered the range. Boy, was it loud in there.

I go to one of the stations and try to load the gun. I had a hard time putting ammo so Andrew had to do it for me.

Well once it was ready to I go I fired my first shot. I didn't realize how much power a gun can have when it recoils. As I continue to shoot it started to become a little fun. At one point I became trigger happy and just kept on shooting.

I tried some of the other guns like the revolver and the other had guns. I was afraid of the rifle and a couple of other guns. I tried like three or four guns.

In the end it was a great experience. Totally fun and is something I would do again. I would never buy a gun but just to go to a shooting a range and shoot some targets.

Here are some photos:

Credit Card

Yesterday was pay day and what do I do on pay day? Pay bills so I that's all taken care of. As I got to paying my Macy's card online I noticed that I had a zero balance. I was a little excited but I thought something was weird because I know I didn't completely pay it off. Next thing I know it says that my account was closed.

A little confused I called customer service. They said that my card was reported as lost and stolen and it was reported the day before. I know for a fact I didn't do it. They didn't have any other answers except that they assured me that it wasn't identify theft or someone trying to order a new card and being sent to a new address.

They had me call Consumer Protection Service so I can get full details but they were closed for the night so I had to call the next day.

I called this morning and what they told me that my credit card was comprimisted. A database was stolen and certain number of credit card numbers were attached. One of them was mine. Before anything could happen they cancelled all the accounts and were issued new account numbers. Suppposedly I was going to receive a call regarding this.

Part of me is relieved but a little frustrated that I wasn't properly notified. At least it is all taken care of.

Whew!

Tea

I have been sick for the past week. Being sick sucks but hopefully I'm on the road to recovery. What's left is a slight sore throat and cough. I'm ready to have it all gone so I can get to running.

Side Note - I went to the gym to go to the steam room so I can sweat it out. Hopefully that would help. Anyhow I weighed myself and I'm down to 172. If I can get down to 160 I think I'd be a happy camper. Woohoo!

Anyhow, so when I'm sick my drink of choice besides downing bottles and bottles of water is hot tea. So every time I go out I've gotten different teas to taste and I've come up with my favorite ones.

From Java Detour - Orange Dulce. This tea taste like those 50-50 bars. It's quite yummy.

From Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - Moroccan Mint. I love Mint teas and this one is good.

From Starbucks - Tazo Refresh. It's a mint tea also.

Do you have any teas that you recommend?
